Term 4 Summary!

Term 4 has been one of the funnest terms this year because it's when we did most of the sporty events this term & it's been so fun starting surfing! Surfing was my favourite event for the year because it's a way to have fun on Friday mornings & to get better at surfing. Athletics was also super fun because you get to have fun trying to get first & you get cheered on alot! The bad thing about athletics is that EVERY YEAR i've been in Ziggy's races(he's the fastest kid in the school(maybe)). It might be because I am pretty fast & they might want it to be a good race!

This is my 100 meter sprint.

This is one my 200 meter sprint.

Another fun thing term was the Kapa Haka festival because I like singing & it's a fun way to have fun with your friends. It's also a way to express your feelings because singing is fun. Haka is strong & can also tell stories like singing but Haka is more for the men & singing is for both men & women. I am doing my Waka Hoe after I finish this blog post & I am getting through it really fast! A Waka Hoe is a Waka paddle that the Maori used to paddle their waka(boats) to get from place to place or to get food to different parts of the country.
This is a photo of us at the Kapa Haka festival.

Culture city is where you have a certain amount of time to finish your work so you can go surfing. You have to finish 1 paper doll & 1 timetable about the culture you chose. The topics on the timetable are Drama(how they tell their past), Visual Arts(what their art is), Dance & Music. The paper doll is basically a white gingerbread man that you have to decorate to make it look like what the culture your doing wears. The culture for the term were Maori or Aboriginal, Maasai or Egyptian, Thai or Indian & Mexican or Cuban, I chose Maori, Maasai, Indian & Mexican.

Kapa Haka 2019!

Kapa Haka Festival
2019

As we stormed onto the stage the parents cheered us on to make us more determined & to try our hardest. Hunter started us off with "Tu Mai Ra, Nga Tamariki..." while Koka Sue strummed her guitar to the rhythm. All the songs we sang were Tu Mai Ra, Haramai a Paoa, Ka Pioioi, Purianei, Utaina, Wainui Haka, Ka Mate, Wainui-e then He Honore. My favourite song is Utaina because once we've sung it the girls sing it again but the boys do the Haka version of it. It just sounds really good from both of the tunes mixing together.

We had to be in sync with our takahea otherwise it would make us sound really bad. Or if someone sings the wrong words or does the wrong actions it can mess up our whole performance. You stand out ALOT if your not doing anything. Even if your not doing a takahea you stand out because the audience can see under & through all of our legs. Also if your not singing or not doing the actions it's really obvious because some of the audience are on really high stands & can see all of us.

At the end I felt really happy but relieved I was happy because I love Kapa haka because it's just fun to sing & it brings out the happiness in mostly everyone. When I saw my mum at the right side of the hall I smiled at the camera but I think she was too focused on focusing the camera on the performance to see me. When I got home my mum said she was on the stands first but then she moved to the side & that's when I saw her. After when we were outside waiting for the buses our parents could come see us but my mum didn't know, she still had a meeting to go to. Of Course when I got home my mum asked me how it was & I said it was AWESOME! This is a photo of the boy's & girls singing & doing the actions to Purianei.

Overnight at the Marae!

On Thursday our whole school went to go to Te Poho O Rawiri Marae, to stay the night. We have been practicing a powhiri, getting ready for the Marae outside for about 2 weeks. The whole of Nui went there to stay the night unless you didn't want to. They also gave you a list for all the stuff you needed to bring on the trip.

We stayed at the Marae for Thursday & Friday. Our parents dropped us of at the Marae between 8:30-8:45. For dinner we had nachos which I was SUPER excited about! When we got ready for bedtime the teachers call out room numbers so you can do whatever you need to do before bedtime.

There's two people on one mattress so that'll be fun.(More like a nightmare, the person next to you could keep you awake the whole night!) By snoring, talking to people all night, shuffling in their bed, sleep talking, etc. There's a lot of stuff they could do to keep you awake)😞 On Friday we all went back on the bus to school so we can go back home!(If you read this blog post please leave a comment)😄 This is a photo of us doing kapa haka, in front of the parents on Thursday night.

Shadehouse Crew!

On Tuesday we went up to the lands farm to do some planting, we planted Harakeke/Flax, Cabbage Trees & I can't remember the rest. We did planting because we are in the shade house crew, our adult that leads the shade house crew is Kauri & theres 9 kids in it.  The kids are me, Hunter, China, Robbie, Matai, Rasmas, Rosie, Caitlin & Angus.

Rasmas was away so he couldn't come, & that made 8 people that could help. We planted around 290 plants in about 3 hours, we finished a bit early so we did some docking. If you don't know what docking is, it's where you get the lambs & Put a ring around their tail, clip the ear.

Next week me, Matai, Robbie & China will probably will go to Sistisons lagoon, we were going to do it today but we thought was going to be bad weather so we canceled it. It was actually really good weather to go planting tho. :( So we probably will leave it till next week. I'll try & get a photo of us when we had just finished planting all the (around) 290 plants.

Lighthouse Writers!

In Term 2 our teachers introduced lighthouse writers & i'm one of them! It means that we don't have to do all the quickwrites, but instead I only have to do a quality piece of writing, & our teachers choose a video or photo for us to write about. Also before or after morning teas on Tuesdays & Thursdays we all go to a workshop to see what we've done throughout the week! This Is Week 9 Term 2's quickwrite.

Term 2!

Term 2 was a jam packed Term, with trips when you least expect it & school events. I was at the Tairawhiti museum trying to work an olden day radio, but there was buttons to change the channels & turn it off & on.

Retro tech was super fun, fiddling around with our item, trying to figure out what it was without searching it up to find out what it was. At one point I even thought it was the first stage of binary! But it turned out it was just a retro calculator.:(

We also went to the Museum of Technology & saw all of the army tanks & trucks, old fire trucks, mini set of model trains in action, old bike & stretchers, old jail cells, etc. There was so much awesome stuff at the Museum of Technology, but my favourite thing was when Toby locked so much people in the jail cell & outside we were laughing so hard!;) That's all for this blog post!

Retro Tech!

My favourite trip last week was going to Tairawhiti Museum (in Gisborne) because we got to use quills to practice writing our names and also took photos of ourselves with Polaroid cameras. After, we glued them onto a piece of paper, which we are going to decorate with designs. It was so much fun because I love art and I drew some of my art.

We also got to see typewriters and old torches with HUGE batteries, really old radios, record players, old tape cassettes etc.
That's all I've got for this week!

Priorities!

I haven't checked in any of my priorities yet & I only need my Word Work to do to go surfing on Friday morning! I've got until Friday morning to finish them but it's Wednesday today so I have a pretty good chance of finishing them! If surfing is canceled then we go to assembly instead. I found my subtracting thousands hard on basic facts so that's something to improve on for next week! That's all I've got for this week!
